Content

These six factsheets present the first component of the pilot SCP Policy Factsheet project - the overall policy framework to support the implementation of SCP. The content of this component is outlined in more detail below.

1. Setting the scene
A selection of relevant facts and figures about the country is presented. Further, a narrative introduction “SCP in the national environmental policy context” is provided.

2. Strategic objectives, policy instruments in focus and indicators and quantitative targets defined in national SCP and/or most important SCP-related strategies and action plans etc. in place
One of the main objectives of this first series of pilot SCP Factsheets has been to indentify national SCP or highly SCP-related strategies, action plans etc. in place. This section provides an overview of relevant;

1. strategic objectives (e.g. “decoupling of environmental pressures from the development of the energy sector”);
2. indicators (e.g. “CO2 emissions per capita”) and quantitative targets (e.g. “20 % reduction in final energy consumption by 2020”) defined in these policy documents, as well as provides a summary of
3. concrete policy instruments (e.g. “introduction of white certificates trading system”) and/or types of policy instruments (e.g. “market-based instruments to internalise environmental externalities”) which are planned to be introduced (being and/or have been implemented) in order to reach the objectives and targets defined.

The objectives, indicators, quantitative targets etc. identified in these strategies are presented in two sub-chapters, one on national SCP strategies (strategies explicitly in the name of SCP) and the other one summarising information extracted from all the other, SCP-related strategies etc.

3. Institutional setup supporting the implementation of SCP
In this section brief information about institutions in place “in the name of” SCP and examples of other innovative institutions, which have good potential to foster the implementation of SCP in the national context is provided.

4. SCP international cooperation
This section provides and overview of international cooperation initiatives and activities by the country “in the name of” SCP, particularly those that take place in the framework of the Marrakech Process (e.g. Task Forces and other related activity) and the International Panel for Sustainable Resource Management.

5. Overall SCP stakeholder events, campaigns and dialogue processes
In this section overall, multi-stakeholder events, campaigns and dialogue processes that have been organised “in the name of” SCP in the country are briefed.
